How Our Quotation and Collection Works

Four straightforward steps, with someone to talk to if you need a hand.

1. Get Your Free Quote

Enter your vehicle registration into our online quotation form.

2. Tell Us About Your Car

Explain the faults, damage or condition and where the vehicle is located.

3. Discuss Your Offer

We’ll review the details and discuss what we may be able to offer.

4. Arrange Collection

If you’re happy to proceed, we’ll discuss suitable collection arrangements and paperwork.

Can I Sell My Category N Car?

Category N describes a write-off following non-structural damage. It does not mean the damage is only cosmetic or that the car is safe to drive. A Category N car may still need expensive mechanical, electrical or safety-related work. Tell us what the insurer and garage have actually found.

There is no pressure to decide while you are gathering information. Start with your registration, explain the condition in your own words and tell us where the vehicle is parked. We can discuss a quotation without asking you to authorise repairs or accept an offer first.

Non-Structural Does Not Mean a Minor Repair

Broken lighting, suspension parts, wiring or safety systems can make repairs costly even without recorded structural damage. Explain the main problem and what else needs attention. If the car starts, say so, but do not treat that as evidence it is safe. We want a useful description of your Category N car, not a guess about repair costs.

Keep the Insurance and Repair Stories Together

Tell us whether the vehicle is unrepaired, repaired or part-way through work. The insurer’s original description may no longer match a car that has been dismantled or had parts removed. Include useful invoices or assessments you already have, and make clear what remains unfinished on the Category N car.

Selling Retained Category N Salvage

Check that the insurer has agreed retention and that you have authority to sell. GOV.UK says the log book can be kept when retaining a Category N vehicle. Other paperwork or finance arrangements may still need discussion. We do not promise to resolve a claim or certify a repair as part of a quotation.

What to Include in Your Enquiry

Give us the registration, mileage if known and the postcode where the vehicle is now. Add the main problem and other faults, accident damage or missing parts. A useful description does not need to be technical; just tell us what you know and say when something is uncertain.

If you have a garage report, an MOT result or repair estimate already, the details can help. You do not need to buy another inspection solely for our quotation. Let us know if work has started or the vehicle has changed since a report was written.

Collection: What We Need to Know

Explain where the Category N car is parked and whether it can be moved. Tell us about damaged wheels, flat tyres, locked access or missing keys. Collection needs to be agreed for the current condition, not the condition before the accident.

Please mention a narrow entrance, underground parking, another vehicle blocking access or a garage holding the keys. Tell us who can authorise release if the car is away from your home. We will discuss the practical details and what the offer includes before you decide, rather than assume every location or vehicle needs the same arrangements.

Helpful Details About Your Category N car

These points help explain the Category N car you want to sell. Just tell us what you know. You do not need to diagnose the problem yourself.

Describe visible dents, broken lights or damaged glazing.

Safety equipment

Explain deployed airbags or known restraint-system work.

Electrical problems

Include wiring, control-system or other electrical findings from a garage.

Repair progress

List completed work and any jobs or parts still outstanding.

Mechanical damage

Mention affected wheels, suspension, engine or transmission parts.

Retained salvage

Tell us what your insurer has agreed about ownership and release.

Questions About Selling a Category N car

Can I sell a Category N car without repairs?

You can ask about an offer as it stands. Explain the damage, completeness and right to sell before collection is discussed.

Is Category N only cosmetic damage?

No. It means non-structural damage and can still involve important mechanical, electrical or safety parts. Pass on the assessment rather than assuming it is minor.

Can I keep using the car because it is Category N?

The category alone does not establish roadworthiness. Only use a vehicle that meets the legal requirements and is safe in its present condition.

What if I repaired the car years ago?

Tell us about the previous Category N history and its current faults. Include any useful repair records, even if the original accident was some time ago.

Must I settle the insurance position first?

You need the right to sell and release the vehicle. Explain any unfinished claim or retention arrangement before agreeing a sale.

Does missing paperwork stop an enquiry?

Tell us what is available and what is missing. We may need further information before proceeding, particularly where ownership or finance is unclear.

How do I request a quote for a Category N car?

Enter your registration in the quotation box, then describe the condition and where the vehicle is parked. Include the details you already know; you can also call 07931 744064 if it is easier to explain.

Do I have to accept the offer?

No. The quotation is free and there is no obligation to sell. Take time to ask questions, understand the offer and discuss collection before you decide whether to go ahead.

What Could a Category N car Be Worth?

A Category N car’s history is relevant, but its age, model, mileage, current damage and parts still fitted also affect the enquiry. Do not compare a repaired car’s advertised price with an unrepaired salvage offer as though they concern the same thing.

Be clear about what is included in the sale and ask what collection involves. A figure for a different vehicle, or its value before a fault or accident, is not a reliable comparison. Our main scrap car prices guide explains general factors; your offer needs to reflect the vehicle you have actually described.
