How Our Quotation and Collection Works

Four straightforward steps, with someone to talk to if you need a hand.

1. Get Your Free Quote

Enter your vehicle registration into our online quotation form.

2. Tell Us About Your Car

Explain the faults, damage or condition and where the vehicle is located.

3. Discuss Your Offer

We’ll review the details and discuss what we may be able to offer.

4. Arrange Collection

If you’re happy to proceed, we’ll discuss suitable collection arrangements and paperwork.

Can I Sell My SORN Car?

SORN means the vehicle has been declared off the road; it does not describe its mechanical condition. A SORN car might run, have a serious fault or have been unused for years. Explain those points separately. Follow GOV.UK rules about keeping and using it off the road rather than assuming an enquiry changes its status.

There is no pressure to decide while you are gathering information. Start with your registration, explain the condition in your own words and tell us where the vehicle is parked. We can discuss a quotation without asking you to authorise repairs or accept an offer first.

Tell Us Why It Is Off the Road

Explain whether you declared SORN after a breakdown, because the car was no longer needed or while a project was underway. Include known engine, gearbox, MOT and bodywork problems. The declaration alone does not tell us the condition, and we do not need you to tax or repair it solely to request a quotation.

Keep Road Use and Collection Separate

Do not assume you can drive a SORN car to a collection point or leave it on a public road. Check the current GOV.UK rules linked below. Tell us where it is legally kept and discuss collection there. We will need to understand access and any restrictions without asking you to reposition it for the enquiry.

Complete the Sale and DVLA Notification Properly

When you sell or transfer the vehicle, tell DVLA using the correct process. SORN does not transfer to a new keeper. Keep the buyer’s details and relevant paperwork. If the log book is missing, disclose it before a handover and follow the official instructions for notification without a V5C.

What to Include in Your Enquiry

Give us the registration, mileage if known and the postcode where the vehicle is now. Add the main problem and other faults, accident damage or missing parts. A useful description does not need to be technical; just tell us what you know and say when something is uncertain.

If you have a garage report, an MOT result or repair estimate already, the details can help. You do not need to buy another inspection solely for our quotation. Let us know if work has started or the vehicle has changed since a report was written.

Collection: What We Need to Know

Give the location where the SORN car is kept and explain gates, wheel restrictions or limited access. Do not move it onto a public road for us. Discuss collection and complete the correct DVLA notification if a sale goes ahead.

Please mention a narrow entrance, underground parking, another vehicle blocking access or a garage holding the keys. Tell us who can authorise release if the car is away from your home. We will discuss the practical details and what the offer includes before you decide, rather than assume every location or vehicle needs the same arrangements.

Questions About Selling a SORN car

Can I sell my SORN car?

You can enquire if you have the right to sell it. Explain its condition and where it is kept.

Do I need to tax it for a quotation?

No. We do not ask you to tax it just to enquire. Collection and any lawful road use are separate matters.

Can I drive it to a meeting point?

Do not assume that. Check GOV.UK’s SORN rules and discuss collection from where it is kept.

Does SORN tell you the car is broken?

No. Tell us whether it runs and what faults or damage it actually has.

Does SORN transfer to the buyer?

No. Follow the official DVLA sale notification process; the new keeper must deal with their own obligations.

What if it has no current MOT either?

Tell us the MOT status and any known defects. Do not make it roadworthy solely for our enquiry.

How do I request a quote for a SORN car?

Enter your registration in the quotation box, then describe the condition and where the vehicle is parked. Include the details you already know; you can also call 07931 744064 if it is easier to explain.

Do I have to accept the offer?

No. The quotation is free and there is no obligation to sell. Take time to ask questions, understand the offer and discuss collection before you decide whether to go ahead.

What Could a SORN car Be Worth?

A SORN car is quoted on its model, age, mileage, faults and completeness, not on the declaration itself. Include changes while it has been parked. Comparing an individual offer with repairs or continued storage is more useful than assuming every off-road vehicle has the same value.

Be clear about what is included in the sale and ask what collection involves. A figure for a different vehicle, or its value before a fault or accident, is not a reliable comparison. Our main scrap car prices guide explains general factors; your offer needs to reflect the vehicle you have actually described.
